Best Time to Visit Thailand from India — Month-by-Month Weather & Season Guide 2025

Sapphire Siam Holidays May 26, 2025 Travel Guides

The most common question before a Thailand trip: “When should we go?” The answer depends on which part of Thailand you’re visiting — the country’s weather patterns are surprisingly complex, with the Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi) and Gulf coast (Koh Samui, Pattaya) having almost opposite monsoon seasons. This guide clears up the confusion.

Best time to visit Thailand from India

Thailand’s Three Seasons — Quick Overview

🌟 Cool & Dry Season (November – February)
Temperature: 20–32°C | Humidity: Low | Rain: Minimal
This is the golden season — the best time to visit almost all of Thailand. Comfortable temperatures, clear blue skies, calm seas for island hopping, excellent visibility for snorkeling and diving. This is also peak tourist season — book 2–3 months in advance and expect higher hotel rates.

☀️ Hot Season (March – May)
Temperature: 35–40°C | Humidity: High | Rain: Occasional
Bangkok and inland Thailand get uncomfortably hot. Songkran (Thai New Year water festival, April 13–15) is one of the best times to experience Thai culture. The Andaman coast beaches remain good until April. Koh Samui starts its best season in March.

🌧️ Monsoon / Rainy Season (June – October)
Temperature: 28–34°C | Humidity: Very High | Rain: Heavy (Aug–Sep)
Monsoon brings lush green landscapes, fewer tourists, and 30–40% lower hotel rates. Avoid Andaman coast islands (Phuket, Krabi, Phi Phi) in this period — rough seas cancel many tours. But Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Koh Samui remain perfectly visitable.

Month-by-Month Guide for Indian Travellers

January — Peak Season ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The best month for all Thailand. Perfect weather everywhere — Phuket, Krabi, Koh Samui, Bangkok, Chiang Mai. Post-Christmas crowds taper off in the second half. Book early as hotels fill up fast. New Year season extends through first 2 weeks.

February — Peak Season ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Arguably the best month to visit Thailand — excellent weather coast-to-coast, Chinese New Year festivities in Bangkok’s Chinatown (major celebration), less crowded than January. Ideal for beach holidays and cultural exploration.

March — Excellent ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Still great weather on Andaman coast and Bangkok. Chiang Mai has some smoke haze from burning season (Feb–April) — visibility from hilltops reduced. Koh Samui enters its best season. Great value before high-season prices end.

April — Good for Gulf Coast ⭐⭐⭐

Songkran (Thai New Year, April 13–15) — the world’s biggest water festival. Amazing cultural experience in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Pattaya. Hot everywhere (35–40°C). Andaman beaches start getting choppy. Koh Samui and Gulf coast remain good.

May — Shoulder Season ⭐⭐⭐

Monsoon begins on Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi). Bangkok manageable. Koh Samui still good. Hotel prices drop 20–30%. If you’re visiting Bangkok and Chiang Mai only, May can be good value.

June — Low Season (Andaman) ⭐⭐

Heavy rain on Phuket, Krabi, Phi Phi — many boat tours cancelled. Bangkok and Chiang Mai have rain but manageable. Great deals available everywhere. Not recommended for beach holidays on Andaman coast.

July – August — Low Season ⭐⭐

Wettest months on Andaman coast. Koh Samui also starts getting rain. Bangkok workable with afternoon showers. Best time to visit Chiang Mai waterfalls (lush, full flow). Budget travellers can find 40–50% discounts on hotels.

September — Lowest Season ⭐

Peak monsoon everywhere. Avoid for beach holidays. However, lowest prices of the year. Good for cultural travel (Bangkok temples, museums) if you don’t mind afternoon downpours.

October — Improving ⭐⭐

Andaman coast rain easing. Koh Samui’s monsoon peaks in October–November (one of its wettest months). Bangkok improving. End of October sees the beautiful Loy Krathong festival — worth planning around.

November — Very Good ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Andaman coast recovering nicely — good for Phuket, Krabi from late November. Bangkok and Chiang Mai excellent (Yi Peng Lantern Festival in November!). Note: Koh Samui is still rainy in November — wait until December for Gulf coast.

December — Peak Season ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Christmas and New Year make December the busiest and most expensive month. Everywhere is excellent — Phuket, Krabi, Koh Samui (now perfect), Bangkok decorated festively, Chiang Mai cool and beautiful. Book 3–4 months in advance for December travel.

Best Time by Destination

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Thailand safe to visit during monsoon season?

Yes — Thailand is safe year-round. Monsoon means heavy afternoon rain showers rather than all-day rain. Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and cultural sites remain fully accessible. Avoid Andaman coast beaches and boat trips during June–October due to rough seas.

What months are cheapest to visit Thailand from India?

June, July, August, and September offer the lowest hotel rates — sometimes 40–50% below peak prices. Flights are also cheaper. If you’re not planning a beach holiday, this can be great value, especially for Bangkok and Chiang Mai.

What should I pack for Thailand?

Light, breathable cotton clothing. Sunscreen (SPF 50+). Comfortable walking shoes. A scarf or light shawl for temples. Flip-flops for beaches. During monsoon: a compact umbrella or light rain jacket. Don’t bring heavy winter clothing — Thailand is always warm.
